Snowbird Pension is located in the Goryu ski village, Hakuba-Japan.

A small, 7 room, friendly boutique style accommodation, which provides a high level of personal service.

Snowbird has easy access to the Goryu ski slopes with the added bonus of sking home at the end of the day.

The Australian/Japanese hosts can cater to both international and local guests.

Guests have the choice of either twin or family rooms, both Western (5) and Japanese tatami (2) rooms, with under mattress for the futons (very comfy). All rooms have a private ensuite.

MEALS

All accommodation comes with a hearty cooked breakfast each day, Western or Japanese-your choice.

Have breakfast at your leisure, with no set times for dining. Enjoy a sleep in if you wish.

Evening meals are an option which need to be booked.

There are a number of good dining places and “izakaya” (Japanese bar) in the village and town, all within an easy walk.

Relax at the end of the day in the lounge area, with freshly made afternoon tea, or use the in-house bar facilities.

BATH HOUSE

Snowbird has a modern Japanese Bath house. Make a booking for some private time. Soak away the pains, or just relax.

My wife and I are running a Bed & Breakfast/Cafe in Hakuba, Japan.Located in Nagano Prefecture, Hakuba is surrounded by the Northern Alps and hosting a number of world-class

ski fields. The 1998 winter olympics had a number of events in Hakuba including ski-jumping, cross-country skiing and downhill .We are situated in Goryu, about 300 mtrs from the Goryu toomi skifield. Usually the season starts 1 dec. and goes till Golden Week holiday in the beginning of may.

I am a keen mountain biker and the off season is mtb paradise here, so if you like mountain biking come and stay and I will show you some awesome xc mountain biking. Also there are lots of down-hill courses.

There are a number of good hiking-trails going up to nearly 3000 mtrs, but still reasonably easy as you can take the gondola to about 1500 mtrs.

I am from New Zealand and my wife is Japanese. We have a baby daughter, she was born in march 2007!Also I am a keen tennis player so challenge me to a game! We have the use of two tennis courts and would like to host tennis clubs for weekends away.We have a small cafe serving espresso coffee and home made bread and pastries.Relax on our big verandah with good coffee and nice food.!

Access to all of Hakuba's many ski resorts is simple, all the major ski resorts in Hakuba have free shuttle buses leaving from our car park.

Also within walking distance are a Seven-Eleven (with an international 24H ATM), and a supermarket. For those looking to head out for dinner, there are a dozen bars restaurants within walking distance, as well as a shops and ski rental.

Discount ski rental and lift passes can be arranged, and with our free pick up and drop off service you will not find a more convenient location in all of Hakuba.

「京町家（町屋）って美しいね」。これはアメリカ人Alex Kerr、根っからの江戸っ子社長、やはり東京育ちの公認会計士が、ある席で発言した共通した思いです。たぶん、東京をはじめとする都会生活者や海外からの旅行者の思いも同じだと思います。
「格式高い旅館も大好きだけど、せっかく、京都に来たんだから、美しい京町家に泊まって悠久の京都の伝統文化に浸りたい」と思ったのが、庵の始まりです。

京都の美しい伝統的な町並みは京町家によって構成されておりますが、年々様々な事情で取り壊され、マンションやビル、駐車場へと変貌し、京都の美しい町並みは消えようとしています。
「何とか、美しい京町家と町並みを残したい！」そして、「京町家に泊まりたい！」。その意見が一致して庵の庵の京町家ステイが誕生いたしました。

京町家は、古いものになると江戸時代のものもあるそうで、明治・大正の頃の建物でさえ、100年もの歴史を刻んでいることになります。現在の建築基準法の規制では、再建築不可能な建物と聞いております。京町家は二度と建てられない日本人にとって貴重な財産なのです。

そうした事情で、京町家は、旅館やホテルとしては現行法制上は使用できません。それならば、もともとの住居としての町家を、お友達や親戚の家に泊まりに来た感覚、別荘に来た感覚で使えないかと考え、「庵の京町家ステイ」という住居として短期間使っていただくことになりました。とはいえ、お洒落な町家でなければ泊まりたくありません。京都の伝統美を生かしながら、モダンやオリエンタルな感覚を差し込んで、気持ちの良い空間造りにこだわっております。
Alex Kerrは、日本文化研究家であると同時に、日本の書画骨董にも深い造詣を持っております。
庵の町家には、その感覚も随所に生かされています（この会計事務所も庵の京町家ステイとして生まれ変わりました）。
